The BJP lodges a complaint against the Congress for making disparaging statements about Kangana Ranaut

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Himachal Pradesh filed a complaint on Sunday against the Congress and the Hamirpur Youth Congress Club for allegedly using “an old and objectionable photo” of actor and Mandi Lok Sabha candidate Kangana Ranaut and posting disparaging remarks about her.

In response to their use of derogatory, scandalous, and insulting language on social media platforms, the BJP has requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take necessary legal action.

According to the complaint, members of Congress have infringed on many laws, including the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the Representation of People Act (RPA), and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860. The statement goes on to say that they have violated additional laws, such as the Information Technology Act of 2000 and the Indian Penal Code, and that their actions qualify as “corrupt practice.”

As per PTI, the complaint further stated, “Every artist has a duty to portray the character assigned to them as convincingly as they can; each character has its own unique challenges and requirements. However, the Congress was ignoring this aspect and repeatedly using Kangana’s artistic pursuits to portray her in a vulgar manner with intentions to demean her, as the remarks are not only derogatory and sexually oriented, undermining the dignity of a woman but are also violating the mandatory guidelines of the Model Code of Conduct.”

Notably, the tweet included Kangana’s photo with the message “Lo kar lo baat!” and was uploaded by the Hamirpur Youth Congress Club. On their social media profile, Mandi Mai Garmi has amassed over 10,000 followers. The BJP has urged the ECI to take into account the Congress’s “irresponsible” actions, citing a “dangerous” trend and the fact that its leaders are “habitual offenders” who have a track record of breaking the law.

The BJP further emphasized that this is not the first time that Congressmen have made derogatory comments about Kangana. Previously, Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinate’s purported remark, “Mandi main ladkion ke kya bhav chal rahe hain,” caused uproar and prompted heated responses from the BJP when Kangana was awarded the BJP’s ticket for the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. As a result, the Congress leader was the target of a complaint that was submitted to the ECI.
