The opening of the Mumbai Coastal Road has been rescheduled till March 11

Mumbai: Due to reports that VIPs are “unavailable” for a variety of reasons, the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road project is running behind schedule. Phase one was supposed to be inaugurated today by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. However, IANS reported quoting sources, the MahaYuti alliance leaders were preoccupied with discussions for seat sharing in the Lok Sabha, hence the ribbon-cutting event has been rescheduled for March 11.

When Chief Minister Shinde visited the posh new road two months before, he said that a lane connecting Worli and Chowpatty would be open by January. However, that statement was never fulfilled.

Later, there was talk that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would do the ceremonial opening, either in person or virtually, but he is now occupied with the election campaign. As a result, a new date of March 9 was chosen, and invitations were produced and sent out as well.

The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is unsure whether the inauguration will truly happen on March 11, despite the fact that this has been moved back by two days to Monday.

The Model Code of Conduct, which may be put into effect at any time next week, casts doubt on the MCR’s commencement if the government misses the deadline once again.

Civic authorities, however, are sure that phase one, which includes the two lanes from Marine Drive to Worli and other upcoming amenities in the area, will be finished by May. This would reduce travel time from the current one hour to just ten minutes.

Top figures in the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, including Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Aditya Thackeray, Kishore Tiwari, Nana Patole and M. Arif Naseem Khan of the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (SP), and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, have sharply criticized the delays in releasing mega-projects for public use.
