The PM applauds Kozhikode and Gwalior’s induction into the UNESCO creative cities network

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Kozhikode’s designation as the “City of Literature” and Gwalior’s designation as the “City of Music” under UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network. He commended the citizens of Gwalior and Kozhikode for their outstanding accomplishment.

The Prime Minister said that Kozhikode’s rich literary heritage makes India’s cultural vitality more visible on the international scene. He said that Gwalior’s musical legacy is being heard all over the globe and emphasized the city’s dedication to maintaining and enhancing it.

“India’s cultural vibrancy shines brighter on the global stage with Kozhikode’s rich literary legacy and Gwalior’s melodious heritage now joining the esteemed UNESCO Creative Cities Network,” said Mr. Modi, quoting postings on X by Union Minister for Culture G Kishan Reddy. Kudos to the residents of Gwalior and Kozhikode for this outstanding accomplishment!

The PM went on, “Our country reaffirms its commitment to preserving and promoting our diverse cultural traditions as we celebrate this international recognition.” These honors also bear witness to the concerted efforts of all those involved in preserving and disseminating our distinctive cultural tales.

“Kozhikode in Kerala has been designated as the UNESCO ‘City of Literature,’ and Gwalior as the UNESCO ‘City of Music,’ in the latest @UNESCO List of Creative Cities Network,” the Culture Minister posted on X earlier in the day. These cities are recognized for their steadfast dedication to fostering innovation and culture. Best wishes to all parties involved!
