Traffic Impacted By New Landslide On Mumbai-Pune Expressway, One Lane Closed To Remove Debris

On Thursday night, a new landslide on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway close to the Kamshet tunnel disrupted traffic, according to an official. The landslide, which occurred at approximately 8 p.m., impacted vehicle traffic heading towards Mumbai, he added.

According to the source, there were highway police officers on the scene and work was being done to clear the debris from the busy 6-lane road. According to him, one of the three roads leading to Mumbai was blocked off to clear the mud and debris.

Earlier in the day, a block (traffic suspension) was put in place at the Adoshi tunnel to clear stones and boulders that had slid down the hills, closing vehicle traffic in the direction of Mumbai for more than two hours.

From 12 p.m. until 2 p.m., the highway police shut down the busy carriageway’s Mumbai-bound side. From 2.30 pm onward, vehicles were permitted on the road.

On July 23, traffic between the Talegaon-Urse portion of the road was hampered by a second landslide that occurred during relentless rain close to the Adoshi tunnel. The 95-km freeway that runs between Mumbai and Pune, Maharashtra’s two largest cities, through the Sahyadri mountain ranges and is riddled with tunnels.
