Two people were killed in a crash in Mumbai involving two BEST buses and an autorickshaw

On Sunday in Mumbai, two buses from the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) collided before one of them plowed into an auto-rickshaw, according to the police.

According to them, the collision happened around 1.45 am on a slick section of the Western Express Highway close to the Aarey overpass. Rain has been falling in Mumbai for the last week, making the roadways hazardous.

According to a Vanrai police station officer, the driver of the car in front of the BEST buses hit the brakes while they were both traveling from Poisar depot to Ghatkopar depot. According to the official, the driver of the bus behind likewise used the brakes, but because of the rain-slickened road, it slipped and struck the bus in front before striking an auto-rickshaw. According to him, two of the auto-rickshaw’s passengers suffered serious injuries.

According to the official, the police took the two passengers, Sujata Panchaki (38), and Johny Sankharam (42), to separate hospitals where they were pronounced dead.

He said that the auto-rickshaw driver also suffered a slight lesion to his left face. We have detained the bus driver (who was driving the bus in front) and have charged him under Indian Penal Code section 304-A (causing death by carelessness), based on basic information. The incident took place as a result of the slick road. We are looking into it further,” the official stated.
