Unacademy dismisses a teacher for contentious voting remarks

After a commotion was made by his appeal to students to support knowledgeable candidates rather than those “who only know changing names,” edtech firm Unacademy fired instructor Karan Sangwan. Sangwan’s firing was justified by a violation of the platform’s “Code of Conduct,” according to Unacademy co-founder Roman Saini, who also reiterated the company’s unshakable dedication to provide impartial education.

“Our learners are at the center of everything we do,” said Saini. Personal thoughts and opinions should not be spoken in class since they may inadvertently impact the students. Due to Karan Sangwan’s violation of the Code of Conduct, we were compelled to split ways with him under the present circumstance, according to the Hindustan Times.

Sangwan expressed his plans to address the controversy on his YouTube channel in response to the decision, saying, “My numerous students who are preparing for the judicial services examinations are facing a lot of consequences because of that controversy. For the past few days, a video has been going viral due to which I am in controversy. I have to bear the repercussions with them.

Sangwan urged students in a video to support educated candidates, which sparked the issue. Because of the many bare acts, caseloads, and prepared notes, he bemoaned, “Even I don’t know whether to laugh or weep. Everyone has to work really hard. You now have a job as well. “Next time, vote for someone who is educated so you won’t have to go through this (ordeal) again,” Sangwan said. Ok? Choose a person with education and understanding. Vote against someone who simply knows how to change names. Make an informed choice.

Sangwan did not specifically identify anybody, but his comments were compared to previous remarks made by Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the AAP. Kejriwal questioned, “If someone is illiterate, personally I respect them,” in response to Sangwan’s firing. However, elected officials cannot be illiterate. The age of science and technology is now.

The Congress party and Y Sathish Reddy, the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation’s chairman, added their voices to the discussion and emphasized the need of making educated voting decisions.
