UP BJP leader seeks ban on burqa, party serves notice on him

Uttar Pradesh BJP has issued a show cause notice to the controversial party leader Raghuraj Singh who triggered a fresh controversy by demanding a ban on Burqa worn by Muslim women. He has been given seven days time to reply and has been asked why he should not be expelled for indiscipline and flouting party's principle.

According to the handout issued by the UP BJP, state president Swatantra Dev Singh condemned his 'Burqa' remark and called it against the principles and beliefs of the party.

"Respect for ladies is of utmost importance regardless of their caste and religion. Such indiscipline and irresponsible remarks can't be tolerated" said the UP BJP chief consistent with the statement issued by the party.

Speaking to India Today, UP BJP spokesperson Dr Chandramohan said " Our party believes in 'sabka saath sabka vikas' and such controversial remarks against women can never be tolerated. The BJP is committed to empower and respect every citizen. Anyone working against the ideology of the party will need to face action."

The state BJP leader while chatting with media in Agra sought a nationwide ban on Burqa, a press release which came as an enormous embarrassment for the party leadership.

"Wearing Burqa may be a culture in Arabian countries. Our neighbouring country Srilanka banned it last year after series of blasts. It should even be banned in India because the Burqas were getting used by the terrorists to hide their identity" said Raghuraj Singh who also enjoys the status of minister of state while speaking on the protest being done by the ladies against the citizenship amendment act (CAA).

Meanwhile while addressing a pro-CAA rally in Aligarh last month Raghuraj threatened to bury alive those raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
