Up to January 18, Mumbai Police forbids the flying of paragliders, airplanes, and drones

Prohibition orders under section 144 have been declared by the Mumbai Police for the duration of January 18th. Drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, hand gliders, paramotors, paragliders, and hot air balloons are not allowed to fly above the city for 30 days, according to the police.

Days before the city’s well-attended Christmas and New Year’s events, the order is placed.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) prohibitory orders are going to be in effect until January 18th.

The directive states that there’s a good chance that terrorist organizations or anti-national forces would employ drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, and paragliders to target VIPs, jeopardize public safety, damage public property, and disrupt law and order in the city.

The flying of such items is prohibited by police order, with the exception of police aerial surveillance and particularly written authorization from the deputy commissioner of police (operations).

In a related development, on Wednesday the Maharashtra Excise Department raided a warehouse located on Solapur Street in the Dana Bunder district of Mumbai, seizing 580 bottles of foreign liquor valued at around ₹80 lakhs.

Three people were taken into custody by the police.

“We have formed and deployed multiple squads to prevent the transportation and sale of illegal liquor on Christmas and New Year,” said Deputy Commissioner Prasad Surve of the State Excise Department’s Konkan Division. After receiving information of an illicit liquor stock (for sale in Haryana) coming from Delhi, one of the squads stationed in Dana Bunder conducted a search and seized 580 bottles of 17 various brands.”

“Transportation-related trucks have also been confiscated. Three persons have been taken into custody and a case has been filed,” he said.

Further inquiry is being conducted into the situation, and a case has been lodged.
