Vidyasagar Maharaj, a Jain seer, passes away aged 77

After performing “sallekhna,” renowned Jain saint Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj passed away on Sunday morning in Chandragiri Teerth in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh. He was seventy-seven.

According to a teerth declaration, “sallekhna” is a Jain religious practice that involves voluntarily fasting till death in order to purify one’s soul.
