Weather Update: IMD forecasts rain and snowfall in some areas; this is Delhi’s coldest March morning in five years. View the whole forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in the most recent weather prediction that light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are probable across the western Himalayan Region from March 11–13, while light rainfall is predicted over the adjacent plains during the same time.

Northwest India is expected to be impacted by two western disturbances that are expected to occur on March 10 and March 12. These systems are expected to bring rain and snow to Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between March 10 and 12.

IMD said that on March 13 and 14, scattered to moderately widespread rains and precipitation are also anticipated throughout the area.

The coldest March morning in Delhi in the previous five years

On Thursday morning, people in Delhi awoke to a cool morning with a minimum temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius—five degrees below the season’s normal.

According to IMD, the highest temperature was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below usual.

According to the MeT office, Thursday was the coldest March morning in Delhi in the previous five years.

The lowest temperature on March 1 was 6.8 degrees Celsius, and on March 7, it was 9 degrees, according to IMD statistics from March 2019. March temperatures this year have been seen to be dropping daily.

The weather forecasting organization has indicated that Friday would likely have mostly clear skies and temperatures between 27 and 9 degrees Celsius at maximum and lowest, respectively.

On March 9 and 10, there is a high probability of strong surface winds throughout the plains of Northwest India, with the exception of South Rajasthan.

Additionally, south Odisha is under a cyclonic circulation at lower tropospheric levels. It is expected to have an impact on Odisha, Sikkim, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal until March 9.

Over the next six days, there is a chance of Arunachal Pradesh seeing sporadic precipitation and showers.
