Will Mahua Moitra Be the Fall Guy This Time? Mahua Moitra always had the ‘loyal’ support of her Rottweiler

In her Krishnanagar constituency, Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Mahua Moitra is referred to as the “younger sister” or “Chor Di.” Additionally, Mamata Banerjee is referred to as “Dididi” in West Bengal. The two leaders have traits such as being fiery and having to deal with scepticism that “they can’t do it.”

Moitra worked as an investment banker in London and New York before quitting her job to return to India. In 2010, she initially joined the Congress. But in 2016, she joined the TMC after becoming disenchanted with the party in her native West Bengal. She eventually ran for the Lok Sabha in the 2019 elections from Krishnanagar and won despite being branded an outsider and facing several objections.

At that point, she also started to become involved in scandals. She has often gotten into issues with her supervisors because of her brazenness, calling a spade a spade, and her don’t give a damn attitude.

In 2022, Mamata Banerjee publicly reprimanded Moitra and advised her to “remain within her limits” when several members of the TMC’s Nadia branch objected that Moitra was demonstrating against her own party’s officials. Moitra also defended a movie poster depicting Maa Kali (Goddess Durga) smoking a cigar by claiming that she too thought the Goddess was associated with intoxication and smoking. The TMC had also cut ties with her at that point.

But the party’s many efforts to control Moitra have fallen short. The CM and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee have received accusations that Moitra’s “lifestyle” does not reflect Bengali culture. It doesn’t assist their cause that the state has a sizable portion of the destitute people and that she has a well-groomed perspective.

Even Moitra’s bags are famous and a hot subject of conversation. She entered the eye of the controversy when she gave Lok Sabha a glimpse into her Louis Vuitton bag while it was being debated inflation. The next day, though, she carried the identical bag into Parliament and tweeted about it. The TMC does not respond to her jabs, but she has come under fire from her own party for being close to leaders of rival parties, such Shashi Tharoor.

Similar to Tharoor, Moitra has always been “party uneasy” because to her easygoing attitude and cheerful demeanor. Every action and statement she makes becomes popular. The most recent is her Rottweiler dog Henry, who has been discussed on social media. She is known to upload images and videos of Henry when he is seen “sharing a toast with her” even on her bad (political) days. According to those close to Moitra, she is letting her critics know that she doesn’t give a damn. She has the same fierce loyalty as Henry, and her friends can attest to it. But they also claim that she has experienced several betrayals from those in her immediate circle, giving her a taste of what she is presently going through. Will Henry be able to help her recover this time, or will she be held accountable?
