Will This Formula Work Again This Time? Since the 1990s, the BJP has turned yatras into an unstoppable electoral weapon

The BJP has began its electoral yatras in the election-bound states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with a goal to mobilize its cadres and reach out to as many people as possible. It was launched by its senior leaders, including Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari.

The BJP continues to use the Yatras as its go-to electoral weapon because it believes they are the most effective way to gain early campaign momentum. For instance, the party’s current national president and three prior national presidents launched the Jan Ashirwad Yatra from five separate locations in Madhya Pradesh.

The goal is to reach a broad audience. With 210 Vidhan Sabhas in Madhya Pradesh, or almost 8 crore voters, the Jan Ashirwad Yatra will gather ideas from the general people throughout the course of its 18-day journey. The plan is to visit every area and travel more than 10,600 kilometers, with the unique feature that the Yatra is starting in not one, but five locations. The BJP has made a point of include the leaders of every community and area on the Yatra poster.

With over 1,000 receptions, over 600 chariot meetings, over 250 stage meetings, and approximately 50 significant public gatherings throughout the Yatra, the BJP has also scheduled extensive engagement and discourse. The BJP claims that the leaders from the national and state levels would participate together on various days and in all locations. The BJP claims that images of the 12 leaders riding on the Yatra chariot demonstrate this collaborative leadership.

According to BJP officials, the BJP and yatras have a long history of working together, and the party has been using yatras to build its organization and engage the people for many years. The Ram Rath Yatra of 1990 and the Ekta Yatra of 1993 both strengthened the BJP, demonstrating how the BJP often benefits from yatras in elections. The BJP finally succeeded in installing a Prime Minister in 1996. After the BJP’s Golden Jubilee Yatra was staged in 1997, it once again won the most votes and established the government in the 1998 elections.

Will the BJP’s Yatra strategy once again be successful in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh? The group is assured.
