As part of the All India Coordinated Research Project on “Women in Agriculture,” the Department of Food and Nutrition at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) held an awareness program in Paddi Khalsa village, Jalandhar district, on the “Importance of Kitchen Gardening.”

Dr. Kiran Grover, the director of the Department of Food and Nutrition, provided specifics and emphasized the value of organic vegetables produced at home for living better lives.

Dr. Renuka Aggarwal, a scientist in the Department of Food and Nutrition, described the kitchen garden model and how it might assist those who are space-constrained but yet want to cultivate their own organic veggies without using chemicals. In addition to the awareness discussion, thirty women participants received summer vegetable kits for kitchen gardening and biofertilizers.
