After Virat Kohli’s historic century, Sachin Tendulkar said, “I hope you go from 49 to 50 in the next few days”

The legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar sent a congrats message on social media for Virat Kohli, tying his incredible record of 49 ODI hundreds. Kohli accomplished the record in the World Cup match at Eden Gardens with a 101-run* effort against South Africa. Kohli turned 35 on that day, and he made sure to capture the moment in history with a gritty century.

In a challenging batting surface, Kohli persevered and struck his second century of the World Cup, making it 49th in ODI history—a feat shared by just two players, Tendulkar and him.

But in the One Day Internationals, Kohli needed 175 fewer innings to get the record-tying ton.

Tendulkar sent a special message to Kohli on social media site X, which was previously known as Twitter, wishing for him to record his 50th ODI century in the next days.

“Great job, Virat. Earlier this year, I went from 49 to 50 in 365 days. In the next days, I hope you beat my record and progress from 49 to 50. Many congratulations! #INDvSA,” on his writing.

However, at 119 balls, it was Kohli’s third-lowest century in One-Day Internationals, after Adelaide 2015 (against Pakistan) and Cape Town 2018 (against South Africa). Kohli made careful to grip one end of the bat since it was difficult to bat against the spinners. With his century, India managed to register a formidable 326/5 in 50 overs.

With 543 runs, Virat Kohli is presently two runs behind Quinton de Kock, the leading scorer in the 2018 World Cup.

After India captain Rohit Sharma was defeated by Kagiso Rabada on 40, Kohli walked out to bat in the sixth over. With a breathtaking cover drive that quickly sped away for a boundary, the 35-year-old was on target. After reaching his century in 119 balls with 10 fours, he was still undefeated at 101.
