Wozniacki will be given a wild-card invitation to the US Open, which starts on August 28 in New York, according to the US Tennis Association. She will also get a wild-card entry for a competition in Montreal that starts earlier in August, she plans to compete in the Australian Open in January, and she aspires to play for Denmark in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

She also wants to demonstrate to women that it is possible to balance parenthood and a profession.

Wozniacki has not participated in a competitive match since losing to Ons Jabeur in the third round of the Australian Open in January 2020. She will be 33 in July. Wozniacki has already said that her performance at Melbourne Park would be her last one.

She has an 8-month-old boy and a 2-year-old daughter with her husband, former NBA star David Lee.

“During my three years away from the sport, I was able to spend more time with my family, I became a mother, and I now have two lovely children, for whom I am eternally thankful. But I still have objectives I wish to achieve. Wozniacki stated on Twitter on Thursday, “I want to remind my kids that you can follow your aspirations no matter your age or job.

“As a family, we agreed it was time. I’m excited to play again when I return.

She won 30 championships, including the first Grand Slam singles victory for a woman from Denmark when she prevailed in Australia roughly five and a half years ago. She was No. 1 in the WTA rankings for a total of 71 weeks, having initially attained that position in 2010.

In 2009 to Kim Clijsters and in 2014 to her close friend Serena Williams, Wozniacki finished second at the U.S. Open twice. She also made it to the semifinals at Flushing Meadows three more times.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease that may cause discomfort and swelling in the wrist and other joints. She revealed she had it in October 2018.

“Am I tense? Actually, no. I’m returning to a favourite activity. Yes, I’ll feel anxious before a game; that’s OK with me. That’s OK with me. Will I succeed at the U.S. Open? In my opinion. Will I succeed at the Australian Open? I believe so,” Wozniacki said in a first-person essay published on Thursday in Vogue magazine.

“I’m doing this for that reason. We’ll see what happens, I suppose.

She spoke with women who “gave up on their own dreams to be with their families, but deep down they have this yearning to do something they’re passionate about,” according to what she wrote.

“I want to show those women that maybe there is a way,” Wozniacki concluded. Finding the ideal balance is undoubtedly challenging, but I believe it is doable. I consider myself very fortunate to have a loving spouse, supportive parents, and the assistance of a nanny. To myself and those ladies, I want to demonstrate this. You can have it all: You can enjoy your family and your home life immensely and yet have a successful profession.

When her father, who served as her coach for the most of her career, indicated she was hitting the ball well, Wozniacki said she started hitting tennis balls last year and “knew” she wanted to come back.

“For how long — a year, two years, or three years — will I be able to play at my peak level? I’m not sure. But I’m aware that it won’t be possible in five years, when the kids are in school,” she added.

“I won’t make any rash predictions, but if I didn’t believe in myself, I wouldn’t be doing this: I’m too competitive to just show up and not feel like I’m going to be one of the best players out there,” the participant said.
