‘Beautiful’ Champions League comeback for Arsenal as they defeat PSV

Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard led Arsenal to a “beautiful” 4-0 thrashing of PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, and Mikel Arteta praised the team for their “beautiful” return to the Champions League.
For the first time in six years, Arsenal defeated the overmatched Dutch league leaders to demonstrate they can handle the higher level of play.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arteta’s team ran riot in the first period, with Saka scoring his first goal of the match and then assisting Trossard to make it 2-0.

As Gabriel Jesus scored the third goal thanks to a goal from Trossard, the thrashing was completed by Martin Odegaard after the intermission.

After a very long time, it was a lovely night. It was wonderful to experience the ambiance and Champions League music. Before the game, it was emotional, Arteta stated.

“We must harness that energy. I tried to restrain my emotions while being quite delighted. We must relish these evenings. It’s one to keep in mind.

In March 2017, Bayern Munich humiliated Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate in their last match against them in the tournament.

Despite having no Champions League experience, the Gunners are a far more fearsome force currently and should easily advance from Group B, which also includes Sevilla and Lens.

In the Premier League, Arsenal is undefeated with four victories out of five as they try to atone for last season’s title-race failure.

The possibility to proceed to the Champions League’s knockout rounds, a tournament they have never won, is also a significant motivator for Arteta’s team, and on the basis of this evidence, they are up to the challenge.

“The difference was that we performed really well in both boxes. It is exciting to see these squad sprint and move with such speed. Top-notch finishing was used, according to Arteta.

“To score four goals against a team that had won every game this season is exceptional, but there were still things that could have been much better.”

David Raya, who held his spot after taking Aaron Ramsdale’s place for Sunday’s Premier League victory against Everton, provided another clean sheet in Arteta’s debut game as manager in the Champions League.

Before the game began, there was a tangible sense of expectation in the air surrounding Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal supporters were so enthralled by the event that they responded to the Champions League song with an audible shout, not even the pouring downpour could dampen their joy.

pitch fever

After just eight minutes, Saka gave Arsenal the lead, and the clamor from the crowd reached a fever pitch.

When PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez clumsily blocked Odegaard’s attempt from the outside of the box, Saka quickly reacted to finish decisively from close range.

The energetic Saka’s sharp ball found Trossard, who in the 20th minute scored a beautiful first-time goal past Benitez from the outskirts of the box as goals were pouring down in the storm.

Jesus showed this week that he often skipped school to watch Champions League games on television when he was a little lad, and his enthusiasm for the competition was evident as he repeatedly broke through the PSV defense.

Jesus added up his tally after 38 minutes, giving him 14 goals in 22 Champions League games for Manchester City.

Jesus was found by Trossard’s pinpoint cross, and he took advantage of PSV’s poor marking by slamming his effort from eight yards into the far corner.

Since their victory against Galatasaray in 2014, Arsenal hadn’t scored three goals in the first period of a Champions League match.

Arteta made a number of second-half alterations to safeguard his key players in preparation for Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham.

Odegaard preserved the excitement in the 70th minute by rifling a spectacular 20-yard goal past Benitez, encapsulating Arsenal’s flawless evening.
