Dale Steyn tweets a cute photo and congratulates Keshav Maharaj on earning a “well-deserved” IPL deal

After Keshav Maharaj’s most recent IPL contract announcement with the Rajasthan Royals (RR), former South African bowler Dale Steyn praised his countryman.

Maharaj was pleasantly surprised when the winners of the first Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan, offered him a contract and welcomed him to the team as Prasidh Krishna’s replacement. Maharaj had travelled to India earlier to train with the Lucknow Super Giants players during the 17th IPL.

Steyn, Maharaj’s erstwhile South African colleague, praised him on ‘X’ for his “well-deserved” deal.

“I always tweet a little bit later than I should, but I think Keshav Maharaj’s call-up to the IPL is amazing and well deserved. Getting an overseas finger spinner simply goes to show what a great player he is in a nation full of spinners! Bravo, Kesh!” wrote Steyn.

Steyn, who served as the bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the previous season, has chosen not to participate in the competition’s 17th edition.

Notably, Maharaj is now regarded as one of the top finger spinners in international cricket. The SA20 second season earlier this year saw the skipper of Durban’s Super Giants collect 15 scalps. He led his squad in wicket-taking and led them to the season’s final encounter.

The Rajasthan Royals’ 2024 IPL roster:

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Abid Mushtaq, Abid Chahal, Sandeep Sharma, Avesh Khan, Rovman Powell, Nandre Burger, Tanush Kotian, Shubham Dubey, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Keshav Maharaj, Donovan Ferreira, Abid Mushtaq, and Kunal Singh Rathore.
