Graeme Swann acknowledges India’s “World-class Spinners” but clarifies, saying, “Don’t Think it’s a Capitulation from England.”

Former England spinner Graeme Swann believes that rather than just giving in, England gave in to the pressure of having to match a world-class group of Indian spinners who were at the “absolute top of their game.”

At Dharamsala’s Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, England lost the first day of the fifth and final Test match against India, being bowled out for 218 on a flat surface after winning a good toss and opting to bat first.

The spin of Ravichandran Ashwin (4/51) and Kuldeep Yadav (5/72) did most of the damage.

Swann responded to a question about what may have happened to England by telling PTI, “You got to look at it like I say you have got world-class spinners at the absolute top of their game.”

There are two ways to look at it, in my opinion: either England is caving in to pressure, or they are simply giving in.

“England is aware that they can perform better, but you should be praising India for having a bowler who is currently bowling like a world champion.”

With captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill leading the way after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive fifty, India ended Day 1 at 135 for one.

Swann concluded by describing the day as “disappointing” for England.

“It was a disappointing day overall, even though it had begun so beautifully with the ball swaying and swirling so extravagantly.” From England’s perspective, it was excellent to not lose any wickets during that first session, the 44-year-old former spinner said.

However, they faced Kuldeep, who is currently playing well, and he proved to be too strong for them.

“Ultimately, it’s been a terrible day for England, so very disappointing after winning the toss on a good pitch but then finding yourself in such a weak position at the end of day one.”

Swann identified India as one of the heavy favorites for the next T20 World Cup, despite the fact that they have performed very well to win the current series.

“Look, India will always have a great opportunity to win the T20 World Cup. The Indian Premier League is essentially the birthplace of T20 cricket, and you have some amazing players. It’s about time someone else dethroned Australia as the reigning world champions as well.

Swann said, “If it’s not England, I hope it’s India.”
