Harry Kane equals Jimmy Greaves' record as Tottenham Hotspur defeats Fulham 1-0 in the English Premier League for 2022–23

Harry Kane's goal in Monday's 1-0 victory against Fulham, which placed his club three points outside the top four in the Premier League, made him the joint-leading scorer in Tottenham history.

With his back to the goal and a ball coming to him from the outside of the box, Kane turned and curled a shot into the bottom corner for his 266th goal for Tottenham, tying the late Jimmy Greaves.

Kane delivered a sublime finish as he increased his league goal total for the season to 15 and his career total to 199. Even though Erling Haaland of Manchester City has eclipsed his scoring prowess with 25 league goals in only one season in English soccer, it is looking to be his most productive season ever.

Due to traffic issues in southwest London, the game started roughly 20 minutes late. It was decided by the goal in first-half stoppage time.

Tottenham remained in fifth position but closed the distance to Manchester United in fourth place in the fight for a Champions League spot.

Newcastle, in third position, is likewise three points ahead of Tottenham, despite Tottenham having played one more game.

Kane said that after Tottenham's consecutive defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City, the team met with coach Antonio Conte and "spoke between ourselves about going back to what we are good at."

The England captain remarked, "We simply wanted to go back to the fundamentals." If we want to continue competing for a Champions League berth, keeping clean sheets is crucial.

"We need to return to the strategies that brought us into the Champions League last year."

Conte said that after telling his players he wanted them to be more difficult to defeat, they replied positively. After the final whistle, the Italian coach pounded the air in front of Tottenham's travelling fans while looking emotional.

Conte stated, "Today we demonstrated once again that when we play as a team, it's impossible to play against us.

"Now that we only have 17 games remaining, today must serve as a test run. Try to give it your all and see what occurs. We must continue to compete for the Champions League.

After a strong start, Fulham slowed down and lost the opportunity to beat Tottenham and move up to fifth position.
