IPL 2024: Before the T20 World Cup, Gavaskar praises Rohit’s innings

The great Sunil Gavaskar believes that while Rohit Sharma’s comeback to form may have come too late for the Mumbai Indians, it bodes well for him and the Indian squad going into the T20 World Cup next month.

After finishing the first half of the season with a 105 not out against the Chennai Super Kings, Rohit found it difficult to reach fifty and was dismissed for single figures four times in seven games.

In their last game of the season, Rohit found his swing again, delighting everybody with a stunning 38-ball 68 that included three massive sixes that included the former captain of India.

“Well, it was very pleasant to see. Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live, “Look, we know the Mumbai Indians can’t qualify, but to see Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain for the T20 World Cup, batting the way he has, it’s very heartening.”

That’s just what you want. It is ideal for Rohit Sharma to lead the team from the front so that the lower-order hitters can close things out and maybe score 200 or more each time they bat.

This month, India will travel to the United States to play a practice match against Bangladesh before taking on Ireland in New York on June 5 to kick off their Twenty20 World Cup campaign.
