IPL 2024: Sunil Narine’s first T20 century is encouraging for KKR despite their loss to RR

After defeating the Rajasthan Royals, Sunil Narine’s 56-ball 109 may have seemed like enough to propel KKR to the top of the IPL 2024 rankings.

But with an undefeated sixty-ball century, Jos Buttler derailed his intentions, as RR staged a historic 224-run comeback to maintain their lead in the rankings after seven games with 12 points.

With eight points from six games, KKR held second place, although Narine moved up to third on the Orange Cap list after scoring his first T20 century.

With six games played, the West Indians have already scored 276 runs with a strike rate of 187.75 and an average of 46.00.

It was a wise decision to promote him to bat first with Phil Salt since the left-hander has played with a lot of freedom.

The left-hander has tried big smashes in powerplay overs without fear of being dismissed and has received hefty dividends. He is not afraid to go over the top.

In opposition to one of the strongest assaults of the competition, Narine hit 13 fours and six sixes in 49 balls to get his century.

He was very harsh on Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin, the standout spin tandem of RR. The Trinidadian took only 20 deliveries to score his ton, dragging Chahal to the midwicket boundary after reaching fifty in 29 balls.

After hitting a massive six over deep midwicket off of Kuldeep Sen, the 35-year-old backed it up with a boundary in a 16-run over.

After that, he went into overdrive, hitting Chahal over long-off in the next over and then producing an even more powerful blow in the same area to reach his fifty in 29 balls.

Due to his impressive record, KKR has had good beginnings. He has formed solid alliances with players like Salt and Angkrish Raghuvanshi further up the order.

Since he is now the only cricket player to both make a century and take five wickets in the prestigious event, KKR would want to see Narine maintain his all-around performance.
