Iran, the world champions, won the men’s championship in the 2023 World Paravolley (WPV) Sitting Volleyball World Cup after beating Egypt, the hosts, 3-0.
Egypt got off to a fast start in the first set on Saturday night, but Iran swiftly reversed the tide in their favor. They went on to win the following two games 25-21, 25-19, and 25-17.
Egypt was a formidable opponent, and the match was excellent. Iran’s head coach Hadi Rezaeigarkani told Xinhua, “We were confident about winning because the Iranian team is highly skilled and all players worked very hard in training.”
Iran therefore emerged from the competition with five straight-set victories over Japan, Algeria, Iraq, Ukraine, and Egypt.
Rezaeigarkani pointed out that the Iranian men’s team’s skills were quick serve and spiking.
Meisam Ali Pour, an Iranian player, was voted the competition’s Best Receiver, while Davoud Alipourian, a teammate, was selected Best Setter and Most Valuable Player.
Ali Pour was happy with his trophy and complimented Egypt for their excellent performance throughout the game.
“It’s my dream to receive this kind of recognition after 15 years of playing volleyball,” he told Xinhua.
Since the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil, “we have been the world champions, and this is not a coincidence but the result of hard work and training on all skills,” he said.
The victorious squad of the World Cup in Cairo received a straight qualifying ticket to the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.
According to the Iranian player, Iran had already booked their ticket to the Paralympic Games in Paris before to this World Cup, but they still wanted to keep up their level and get ready for those events the following year.
Even though they lost the gold medal match, hosts Egypt’s first-ever World Cup men’s final appearance and Paris 2024 qualification were noteworthy accomplishments.
“We are delighted that our squad received a promotion. Getting to the World Cup final has always been a goal of mine. “It’s quite an achievement,” said Howayda Mondy, the director of the competition’s Egyptian organizing committee.
The 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball World Cup, which took place in Cairo from November 11 to 18, had 23 teams from 17 different nations and regions: 10 teams competed in the women’s division and 13 teams in the men’s.
