“I’ve Never Seen Virat Kohli Bat Like That”: Nasser Hussain Regarding the Prolific 2023 Season of the Indian star batter

After a short hiatus for mental health in 2022, Virat Kohli returned to the game in 2023 and maintained his excellent form. In the home ODI World Cup, when he reached his highest point of the year, Kohli amassed 2048 runs in 35 international innings at an average of 66.06, with eight hundred and ten half-centuries.

He broke the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, the renowned player, for the most runs in a single edition of the quadrennial event with his 765 runs, which included three centuries. In the summit match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, India lost to Australia by six wickets, however, he was named Player of the Tournament.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised his outstanding year-long performance, saying that 2023 was a great year for batters both mentally and with the bat.

“He had an incredible World Cup and an incredible 2023. The ICC cited Hussain as stating, “Actually, we didn’t focus on how well he was batting technically because of all the records that he broke and the attention he got.”

“That is the best Virat bat I have ever seen. The first thing that sounds good. I can think of probably five innings from the Mumbai innings against Sri Lanka, but he was getting into such excellent situations. I believe it indicates that Virat Kohli is in a good mental place and that his game is in order, which is incredibly encouraging for fans of both India and Kohli,” he said.

Kohli is taking part in the two-match Test series in South Africa, having opted out of the white-ball tour of South Africa and the home Twenty20 Internationals against Australia. In the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion, he contributed more than any other Indian hitter and continued his incredible ODI form in red-ball cricket.

India’s batting performance was subpar as they lost the game by an innings and thirty-two runs. India sustained a severe blow in the first game of the series when the former captain produced knocks of 38 and 76, respectively, and were folded for 131 in the second innings.

On Wednesday, January 3, the second and final Test match between South Africa and India will take place at Newlands, Cape Town.
