La Liga: Mallorca gets closer to safety as Real Madrid scores five

Madrid, 15 May La Liga winners Real Madrid defeated Deportivo Alaves 5-0 at home as they continued to get ready for the Champions League final.

Madrid celebrated their 36th league triumph in front of their supporters before the game began, and three more goals before halftime added to the excitement.

After only ten minutes of play, Jude Bellingham scored with a chip. Then, Fede Valverde scored with a strong shot in first-half injury time, and Vinicius Jr. tapped in after excellent work from Eduardo Camavinga, making it 3-0 at the interval, according to Xinhua.

After a ball from Bellingham, Vinicius Jr. added a fourth in the 69th minute, and Arda Guler scored his third goal in as many weeks after deflecting a Rodrygo attempt.

Girona’s hopes of placing second were severely damaged after they lost 1-0 at home to Villarreal, just their second loss at home this year.

In the first half, Girona had two good opportunities, both of which Artem Dovbyk missed. However, in the 58th minute, Bertrand Traore punished them with an angled shot that found the back of the net.

Girona is now one point behind Barcelona, who have played one less game as a consequence of the outcome, although Villarreal may still make it to Europe the following year.

Mallorca’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna away sealed a crucial point in their quest to stay above the drop.

In the first half, Jon Moncayola gave Osasuna the lead with a shot from outside the penalty box; however, Sergi Darder equalized after a corner in the 65th minute, when the ball went loose.

If Cadiz loses on Wednesday night away to Sevilla, Mallorca will be secure.
