Mizoram U20 men’s football nations defeat Assam 5 goals to go to the semifinals and face Delhi

May 18, Narainpur, Chhattisgarh—Mizoram defeated Assam 5-1 at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground on Saturday to continue their remarkable run in the Men’s Swami Vivekananda U-20 National Football Championship.

Having scored fifteen goals in their three group matches and winning Group F with all nine possible points, Mizoram came into the match in fine form.

There were few questions over this Mizoram team’s ability to score goals, and they demonstrated this by taking the lead with a free kick from Lalremtluanga in only the game’s second minute.

Assam did show grit in the first half, drawing even after eighteen minutes of play when Uttam Limboo scored after Abhinash Boro’s cross found him.

In the 43rd minute, Mizoram took the lead in spectacular way via to a left-footed shot from beyond the box by Emanuel Lalhruaizela, closing the first half 2-1. Mizoram dominated the second half, winning 5-1 thanks to three goals, including Lalremtluanga’s second of the day.

In their semifinal match, Mizoram will take on Delhi, who won their quarterfinal matchup against Kerala via penalty shootouts. While Manipur and Karnataka play their semifinal on the same day as Mizoram and Delhi’s match, which is scheduled for Monday,
