Next year, FIBA will host additional 3×3 competitions in China

According to a senior official of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), China will host more 3-on-3 basketball competitions in 2023 than any other country.

After the 33 World Tour in Shanghai, China, which ended this weekend, Ignacio Soriano, the FIBA 33 Head of Events and Partnerships, spoke with Xinhua at the FIBA Headquarters close to Geneva and pledged to schedule China more regularly in the next year.

According to Soriano, “China is one of the nations with more professional level activities.” “By the end of this year, we’ll have three (additional) World Tours. There were three women’s series and seven challengers. In essence, we have been hosting each and every competitive network event.

This next weekend, on October 21 and 22, the World Tour will stop in Chengdu, China, and the Wuxi leg is slated for November 4-5. On November 25–26, 2023, Hong Kong, China, will host the event, which will make 13 stops overall.

Beginning on November 1, the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament will take place. China is placed first in the women’s and third in the men’s divisions in the FIBA 33 Federation Ranking, which is the basis for the qualification simulation.

“The men’s team is ranked third in the world as of October 16, while the women’s team is first. Both the men’s and women’s teams would have been qualified for the Olympic Games if the rankings had ended today. This demonstrates that (in China), things are being done correctly, according to Soriano.

“We want to launch a super league in China next year. To continue hosting the top competitive network events in China, we have highly ambitious goals. Next year, there will be at least the same amount of events. We are optimistic and anticipate having more,” he said.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 will include 3-on-3 basketball, and the Chinese national team earned the bronze medal in the women’s tournament. In China, the first season of the 33 domestic league began in August 2022.

“I believe 3×3 is more approachable. In essence, it may be heard anywhere. You don’t need a license, and the court and its facilities are not necessary, according to Soriano. I wouldn’t evaluate it in terms of 55. This seems to be two distinct goods. The strength that you need for one and the other is different, as are the training methods and tactics.

“We have already begun discussing the 2026 World Cup. We have a special support presentation strategy to carry out the activities and to preserve the memory of the experience that includes both sport and entertainment, he said.
