Former Asian Games gold medalist and Arjuna awardee Sudha Singh has joined as the brand ambassador for the third season of the Pune Half Marathon (BAPHM), which is scheduled to take place on 27 November. The two-time Olympian for 3000m steeplechase has also competed in various half marathon events during her international career spanning 13 years. He has won several medals for India at the continental level.
BAPHF, the marquee event of Pune's long-distance running calendar, is back this year after a gap of two years affected by the pandemic. In this, a prize of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for the national record in the half marathon category for both men and women.
Vikas Singh, CEO, of APG Running and Fit page, said, “It is indeed an honor for BAPHM to have one of India's greatest distance runners, Sudha Singh, as its brand ambassador this year. Running. We are sure that Sudha's participation will inspire many more women to come forward and take up distance running as a career."
Sudha has been competing in marathons domestically and recently won the 37th All India Indira Gandhi Award for Marathon in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh in the women's category.
This year, BAPHM has also announced prize money for winning in its race categories, which increased from Rs 21 lakhs in the second season to around Rs 28 lakhs. BAM will promote Indian runners and hence all prizes are reserved for Indian citizens only. It mainly has four categories, which include half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km run, 5 km run, and 3 km run. Registrations for BAPHM have been open since the beginning of this month and so far more than 13,000 runners have registered to participate.
