Ottawa Senators defeat Detroit Red Wings thanks to an overtime goal by Shane Pinto

In the ultimate matchup preceding the All-Star break, the Ottawa Senators clinched a 3-2 triumph on the road against the Detroit Red Wings, with Shane Pinto delivering the decisive goal in overtime. Pinto’s winning move occurred with a mere 2:55 remaining in the extended period, as he skillfully received a pass from Thomas Chabot and deftly chipped the puck over Detroit goalie Alex Lyon.

Ottawa’s momentum has been on an upswing, securing victories in two consecutive games and four of their last six encounters. Mark Kastelic and Brady Tkachuk also made significant contributions with goals for the Senators in their successful outing.

Despite facing a loss, the Detroit Red Wings managed to secure a point and have showcased good form, suffering only two regulation losses in their previous 13 games. Daniel Sprong and Dylan Larkin were the goal-scorers for Detroit, with Larkin extending his impressive point streak to 12 games.

Sprong initiated the scoring for Detroit in the first period, capitalizing on a cross-ice pass from Joe Veleno and firing a shot from the left faceoff circle. Ottawa responded during the second period, with Kastelic leveling the score at 1-1 by skillfully redirecting Jacob Bernard-Docker’s shot. Tkachuk then elevated the Senators to a 2-1 lead with a breakaway goal after serving a penalty.

In the third period, Detroit equalized at 2-2 when Larkin’s shot from above the faceoff circles eluded Ottawa goalie Joonas Korpisalo. Despite the Red Wings’ determined efforts, Pinto’s overtime heroics sealed the victory for the Senators.
