How important it can be for a player to get a place in the team was seen in neighboring Pakistan where a cricketer tried to commit suicide just because he was not selected for the team. Although the promptness of the family members saved his life, this incident is a lesson for all those cricketers who get disheartened by not getting selected for the team and are forced to take such extreme steps.
What's the matter?
A young cricketer from Hyderabad in southern Sindh province has attempted suicide only because he did not get a chance to play in the Pakistan Cricket Board's home team in the Inter-City Championship.
This fast bowler named Shoaib became so disappointed that he was not named in the team that he slit his wrist but due to the promptness of the family members, the player's life was saved. According to the family members, "The young cricketer took this step disappointed after his coach did not include him in the trial in the Pakistan Cricket Board's Inter-City Championship. Earlier he had imprisoned himself in the room."
According to a report, a family member said, "We found him in his room where his wrist was slit and he was in an unconscious state. We immediately took him to the hospital where he is still in critical condition."
This is not the first such incident
This is not the first such incident in Pakistan when a player has made such an attempt after not being selected for the team. A similar incident took place in February 2018 when an Under-19 cricketer, Muhammad Zaryab, hanged himself at his Karachi home after he was not selected for the team. Although he was not as lucky as Shoaib. He had to lose his life.
