Report: Vice-President Rajiv Shukla and BCCI President Roger Binny will visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup

The BCCI’s senior officials will visit Pakistan to see a few 2023 Asia Cup games. The much anticipated competition gets off on August 30 in Multan when the Babar Azam-led team plays Nepal in the first match. Four of the 13 games will be played in the host country and the other eight in Sri Lanka, according to the hybrid module put out by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

As previously mentioned, vice-president Rajeev Shukla and BCCI president Roger Binny accepted the PCB’s invitation to visit Lahore from September 4–7, when they would see a few Asia Cup matches.

All of the key BCCI office holders had been invited by the PCB, and it is believed that the president and vice-president had received the Indian board’s blessing to accept the offer issued to them.

“Binny, Shukla, and secretary Jay Shah will be in Sri Lanka on September 2 for the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match at Pallekele (Kandy). On September 3, the three will return to India, following which the BCCI president and vice-president will fly over the border to Lahore, according to a person familiar with the situation who was cited by the news agency.

In fact, the PCB has invited both Binny and Shukla, together with their respective wives, to a formal dinner on September 4 at the Governor’s House in Lahore.

The two BCCI officials will witness Pakistan’s first Super Four game on September 6 as well as the September 5 encounter between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Shukla was also a member of the Indian cricket squad in 2004, under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, when they won a historic series.

The decision to hold the event in Pakistan and Sri Lanka was made after great consideration.

Due to the tense political ties between the two neighbors, India and Pakistan have not played each other in a cricket match in years. The two sides only compete against one another in ICC and regional tournaments, with Pakistan scheduled to visit India for the ODI World Cup later this year.
