Sehwag and Sardar Singh included in selection committee for National Sports Awards

New Delhi. The Sports Ministry on Friday announced the selection committee for the National Sports Awards 2020 , which includes former cricketer Virender Sehwag and former hockey captain Sardar Singh . According to the release issued by the ministry, Mukundam Sharma, retired judge of the Supreme Court will be the chairman of the committee. The committee members include Sehwag (cricket), Sardar (hockey), Monalisa Barua Mehta (table tennis), Deepa Malik (para athletics) and Venkatesan Devarajan (boxing). Apart from these, famous sports commentator Manish Batavia, sports journalist Alok Sinha and Neeru Bhatia will also be in the committee.

Sandeep Pradhan, Director General of Sports Authority of India from Sports Ministry, LS Singh, Joint Secretary, Sports Department and Rajesh Rajagopalan, CEO of Target Olympic Podium (TOPS) Scheme will be on the committee. For the Dronacharya Award, the Chairman may include two additional members who have been honored with the Dronacharya Award. This committee will select the winners of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Dronacharya Award, Arjuna Award, Dhyanchand Award, National Sports Promotion Award and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy. These awards are presented on August 29 to commemorate Sports Day on the birthday of legendary hockey player Major Dhyanchand.
