Sergio Ramos’ own goal in La Liga benefits former rivals Barcelona wins 1-0 against Sevilla

On Friday in La Liga, Barcelona defeated Sevilla by a score of 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Real Madrid great Sergio Ramos, which sent the Catalans to the top of the standings.

seasoned center back In a close game, Ramos broke the score by deflecting Lamine Yamal’s header into his own goal in the 76th minute.

The 37-year-old said this week that after returning to Spain from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, he had prepared a spectacular goal celebration if he scored against Barca. However, sending the ball into his own net was not on the agenda.

Ramos is a fantastic defender; today, he only had the bad luck to score an own goal, but he still played well, according to Barcelona coach Xavi.

“It was unfortunate for him, but fortunate for us.”

Sergio develops in these environments, it’s just a bad goal that strikes him and rebounds in, the speaker said.

With their neighbors Girona meeting third-place Real Madrid on Saturday, Barcelona’s win allowed the Catalans to pass Girona at the top of the standings.

After drawing against Mallorca on Tuesday, Girona and Madrid overtook Xavi’s team.

“I can’t watch the game because I have a birthday party tomorrow, just think about that. I’ll follow it, but I’m sorry I can’t watch. May the greatest team win, Xavi remarked.

We feel good about it, we deserved more goals, and we had a wonderful game against a great club. Today is the only thing we have control over.

In protest of Barcelona’s role in the refereeing corruption scandal, Sevilla raised a stir by stating its directors would not attend the customary lunch or take a seat in the presidential box.

On Thursday, allegations of bribery against the Catalan club and a few of its previous directors were made.

To provide extra dynamism behind striker Robert Lewandowski, Xavi began winger Raphinha in offensive midfield alongside Lamine Yamal on the flank.

After a strong run by Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix sent a shot against the crossbar as Barcelona made the early running, but Sevilla were quick on the counterattack.

Ivan Rakitic, a former midfielder for Barcelona, and Dodi Lukebakio both had shots stopped by Marc-Andre ter Stegen, while Gavi expertly used his chest to stop Lucas Ocampos.

Raphinha’s injury ended Xavi’s experiment with him, and Fermin Lopez, a La Masia graduate who had saved Barcelona against Mallorca with a late goal, took over.

The 16-year-old youngster Yamal swiftly set the midfielder up, but he could only manage a weak shot, his lone misstep in an otherwise outstanding performance.

In an effort to score the first goal, Barcelona twisted the screw and Gavi’s shot was barely deflected over.

The breakthrough eventually arrived, and it came from an odd source: Ramos accidentally pushed Yamal’s header back into the danger zone past Orjan Nyland.

Ramos was welcomed by boos from Barcelona supporters because of his past in the Spanish city, which changed to sarcastic applause when his own goal was shown on the Olympic Stadium’s big screen.

When Ramos led Real Madrid in a Clasico in 2016, Yamal, then nine years old, had lined up next to him as a Barcelona mascot.

Ramos had performed well up until his own goal, which helped Barcelona stay at bay.

In injury time, the defender made a superb tackle to stop Lewandowski, but the damage had already been done.

Ramos was effectively defending on that play; he just had poor luck, according to Sevilla’s coach Jose Luis Mendilibar.

He “didn’t have time to react how he wanted when the ball hit him.”
