The New Belgian National Uniform Is a Tribute to Comic Book Icon Tintin

Kevin De Bruyne will look amazing in the soccer European Championship this summer if he adopts his previous hairstyle.

The new home and away uniforms for the male and female international teams were introduced by the Belgium Football Association on Thursday. The national teams’ traditional red hue, known to their players as the Red Devils and Red Flames, is carried over into the home uniform.

However, the away uniform pays homage to Belgian artist Hergé and the figure that brought him international recognition: Tintin, the fearless reporter. It consists of brown shorts, white socks, and a blue jersey with a white collar.

Tintin often dons a blue sweater over a white collared shirt, brown cutoff trousers, white socks, and brown shoes for his action-packed exploits. In addition, Tintin’s quiff hairstyle is a trademark.

The Belgian media has often noted Belgian player Kevin De Bruyne’s likeness to Tintin throughout the years, especially when the Manchester City star had a shorter hairstyle.

Piet Vandendriessche, the CEO of the Belgium FA, remarked, “As a big fan of Tintin, I am delighted that our Red Devils will be conquering Europe in a jersey based on one of Belgium’s greatest heroes.”

We are delighted to honor Hergé, a genuine worldwide legend. Growing up, he not only won my heart and mind, but also the hearts and minds of countless generations. And that’s just what the Red Devils and Red Flames are aiming for. With any luck, Tintin will provide them with the motivation to play well, beginning this summer in Germany.

All Belgian national teams will wear the new home shirt, which has a burgundy shade of red, starting on March 23, when the Red Devils face Ireland as part of their Euro 2024 preparations. The men’s squad will play a friendly match against England on March 26 to debut the away uniform.

Tintin initially appeared in the 1929 newspaper supplement “Le Petit Vingtième” in Brussels and quickly spread around the world. More than 270 million comic books have been sold worldwide thanks to his escapades, which have been translated into 70 languages.

June 14–July 14 is when Germany is supposed to host Euro 2024.

At the press conference held at the Hergé Museum outside of Brussels, the Belgium FA said that Red Devils coach Domenico Tedesco’s contract has been extended beyond the 2026 World Cup.
