The primary concern for Australia in the Ashes series is Nathan Lyon’s calf strain

Lyon was the only cricketer for Australia who seemed to never get injured.

He was harmed on the historic occasion of his 100th straight test, a sign of his tenacity.

The second day of the second Ashes test at Lord’s on Thursday is when Lyon is said to have injured his right calf while attempting to catch a fly ball in the field.

He stood and grabbed his calf. To slowly hobble back to the pavilion, he required assistance.

Teammate Steve Smith remarked, “We’re going to miss him this game and maybe for a little while.”

Cricket Australia said simply that Lyon would be evaluated throughout the course of the night.

If Lyon, 35, has a torn calf, he will miss the last four games of the Ashes series and be out for two months.

He is very valuable to Australia. In the opening victory at Edgbaston last week, the off-spinner had a team-high eight wickets. On Thursday, he claimed the first England wicket of the second test.

The 496th wicket of his career was Zak Crawley. In this test, Lyon had a good chance of being only the eighth guy to reach 500.

At that moment, three of his colleagues were surrendering seven runs per over whereas Lyon had just completed his 13th over and had only allowed 35 runs total. Despite the innings having just 11 overs, he had been asked to bowl.

Australia used Travis Head and Steve Smith as backup spinners in Lyon’s absence.

Lyon, who made his test debut in 2011, last missed a test during the Lord’s Ashes game in 2013. He became the sixth person, and the first bowler, to play 100 consecutive plays.
