The records broken up until the time of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup

Before their crucial group stage encounter against India, Pakistan captain Babar Azam observed, “Records are made to be broken.” Thus, the talented batter became the most recent practitioner of this proverb. But the fact that they lost one more and India now leads 8-0 is a very other story. Nevertheless, when the best athletes from across the globe congregate in India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, teams and individuals continue to shatter records and establish new standards.

48 matches, including the major finale, will be played throughout the massive tournament from October 5 to November 19 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Here are the records that have been broken so far in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, wherein matches are coming thick and fast. (Revised on October 15)

1) Mitchell Star First 50 Wickets Quickest
British pacer The top wicket-taker in the 2015 and 2019 tournaments, Mitchell Starc, has consistently ranked as his nation’s best bowler. The pacer has shown why he is a legend of the game in his third World Cup performance. The left-armer’s dismissal of India’s Ishan Kishan in their encounter at Chepauk, Chennai, made him the tournament’s fastest to 50 wickets. The legends Lasith Malinga (25 innings to 50 wickets), Glenn McGrath (30 innings), and Muttiah Muralitharan (30 innings) were all eclipsed by Starc in this way.

2) Aiden Markram’s quickest Century Aiden Markram, the vice-captain of South Africa, shattered the World Cup record for the quickest century ever achieved in cricket. The record, previously held by Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien against England back in the 2011 edition in Bengaluru, was beaten by the 29-year-old Centurion player in Delhi against Sri Lanka.

3) South Africa scored the most points overall. Vs. Sri Lanka, 428/5
Few people would have imagined that South Africa’s Proteas would collect a score that would be worthy of a record during their encounter versus Sri Lanka. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, South Africa posted a staggering 428 first innings total thanks to centuries from Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock, and Aiden Markram. Australia’s previous mark (417/6) against Afghanistan in Perth at the 2015 World Cup was eclipsed by the Proteas.

Biggest Run-chase: Pakistan 345 vs. Sri Lanka
Thanks to world-class hundreds from Mohammad Rizwan (131 not out off 121) and Abdullah Shafique (113 off 103) Pakistan accomplished the impossible as they chased down a record 344 set by Sri Lanka.

5) Rohit Sharma has the most international sixes (556) and world cup hundreds (07).
Team India captain Rohit Sharma also made history when he smashed a 131-ball innings against Afghanistan, taking his name further down the record books. In 19 innings, Rohit has so far accumulated seven World Cup tons. Sachin Tendulkar previously held the record, scoring six runs in 44 innings. In the course of hitting five sixes during his game-winning innings, Rohit broke Chris Gayle of the West Indies’ old record of 556 sixes in all of international cricket.
