New Delhi. The World Badminton Federation on Tuesday postponed the Thomas and Uber Cup tournaments in Denmark to next year , due to the withdrawal of top teams amid the Corona virus epidemic . India had announced both the women's and men's teams for the tournament to be held at Aarhus, Dermark from October 3 to 11. However, Indonesia and South Korea withdrew on Friday after Thailand, Australia, Chinese Taipei and Algeria due to the Corona epidemic, due to which the BWF called an emergency virtual meeting on Sunday. "The Badminton World Federation is taking a difficult decision to postpone Thomas and the Uber Cup 2020 with the consent of host Badminton Denmark," the federation said in a statement.
It said, "This decision has been taken due to withdrawal of names of several competing teams. Due to the European leg of the revised BWF World Tour, it is now difficult to make alternative programs before 2021. "BWF tried to include Singapore and Hong Kong but they refused. There are reports that China and Japan were also thinking of withdrawing the name. India's star player Saina Nehwal also expressed concern over the tournament's holding at such a time. Saina and PV Sindhu were leading the women's team while the men's team included former world number one Kidambi Srikanth. The BWF also stated that the Denmark Open will take place in Odense from 13 to 18 October according to the pre-determined schedule but the Victor Denmark Masters, to be held from 20 to 25 October, have been canceled.
