Veteran sports journalist GK Menon dies at 93, breathed his last in Mumbai

Mumbai. Veteran sports journalist GK Menon died in a Mumbai suburb on Tuesday morning . He was 93 years old. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He finished his career as a freelancer in the early 1990s after working with The Indian Express and The Times of India. Menon played cricket at the club level and was an active member of the Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Dadar (Central Mumbai).

He was the manager of the Bombay University team of 1952-53, which won the Rohinton Baria Trophy by defeating Delhi in the final held in Bangalore. The team had future Test players like Chandu Patankar, Nari Contractor, Ramnath Kenny, Naren Tamhane and GR Sundaram. He played a key role in the career of former Indian fast bowler Late Ramakant Desai.
