Selected for the 2022 T20 World Cup Owing to RCB Supporters: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik believes that before the 2022 T20 World Cup, his return to the Indian squad was made possible in large part by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and its supporters. Karthik had an incredible IPL 2022, putting on a number of impressive displays at the bat for the Royal Challengers of Bengal. He was an expert finisher, amassing 330 runs at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33.

Karthik was selected for India’s 15-man World Cup team after his incredible performance, which saw him called up for a T20I series against South Africa. The World Cup was hosted in Australia.

“RCB has performed remarkably. In essence, I believe, RCB refers to the supporters. When I think about RCB, I can’t think of anything else. Since RCB is heavily dependent on Virat Kohli, I do believe that he is a very, very significant name. However, in my opinion, the fan base is considerably larger,” Karthik said.

I sometimes believe that the reason I was selected for the 2022 World Cup was due to the support and affection I received from RCB supporters. People who said DK had to be there were so many. I’ll always remember that,” he continued.

Karthik said he would always be appreciative of the supporters for their part in his India return. Karthik recently participated in his last IPL match as RCB fell to the Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator.

“I genuinely believe that RCB and RCB supporters have played a very, very important part in that little episode of me going back and playing for the country and representing India in the World Cup,” the 37-year-old player said. “I had not played international cricket for quite a long time before that.” And I’ll be grateful to them forever,” he murmured.

Karthik further said how the Bengaluru supporters embraced him as one of their own even though he was born in the rival cricket state of Tamil Nadu.

“In cricket, there’s always a fierce rivalry between Karnataka and Bengaluru.” I believe I will be very, extremely happy of the fact that I have continued to play for Bengaluru and that the team’s supporters have welcomed me like they would any other player from their own state,” he said.

Karthik is happy with his cricket journey.

“The fact that I have many decades of playing experience. I am overjoyed. My life has been filled with many positive experiences as a result of our team’s successes, as well as some difficult times. But the way we’ve just hung out together. Whether it was winning the first T20 championship for Tamil Nadu or the 2007 T20 World Cup,” he said.

I have incredible teamwork experience. Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni. What a competition it was! And it’s outstanding. It’s been an absolutely wonderful adventure. One who has shaped me into the person I am now via teaching me. Thus, wonderful memories exist,” he said.

The last-ball six that Karthik struck against Bangladesh in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy final will also live on in his career.

“I’m confident the majority of people would think about the Nidahas Trophy when they think of me as a cricket player. That match, as well as the tournament, had great significance for me personally. There have been several, he said. “And then my fantastic trip with KKR as a captain, where I performed well for them and Mumbai Indians, winning my maiden IPL trophy.
