T20 World Cup 2024: Security Concerned As An ISIS-Related Group Threatens To Attack An India-Pak Match In The US

In response to a warning from ISIS-K, American authorities have increased security for the June 6 India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match in New York. Following the publication of a video by the terror organization encouraging “Lone Wolf” terrorists to target the event, state and municipal authorities have taken immediate action. Commissioner Patrick Ryder of the Nassau County Police Department verified the threat and described the actions being taken to guarantee security.

“The terror group’s video has gained global attention, calling for lone attackers to act out,” Ryder said. “With such a large gathering and event, all threats must be taken seriously.”

Although the site was previously unidentified, the danger posed by ISIS-Khorasan was initially wide and global but has subsequently narrowed to the India-Pakistan match. The most recent advance has a video showing drones hovering over the cricket ground, accompanied by the date “9/6/2024.”

As a result, New York State Police have been directed by Governor Kathy Hochul to impose stricter security protocols, with the caveat that there isn’t now a plausible danger to public safety. She did, however, add, “We are still keeping a careful eye on the issue. For months, my administration has worked in tandem with Nassau County and federal law enforcement to guarantee the security of both residents and tourists in New York.”

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman promised that every safety measure is being taken. “Every threat is taken seriously by us. For each danger, the same protocols apply. We do not downplay dangers. We follow up on every lead we have,” he said during a press conference. The match is planned to take place at Eisenhower Park’s cricket stadium, which will have heightened security. There will be a mobilization of more police officers, and nearby hospitals are on notice. “We will go to every fine detail when it comes to the security and safety of the residents here,” Ryder said. County authorities have asked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to declare Eisenhower Park a drone no-fly zone due to the concern of future drone strikes. The Islamic State’s affiliate in South and Central Asia, known as ISIS-K, has a history of carrying out violent assaults, most notably a fatal attack on a Moscow music venue in March. The seriousness of the present danger is highlighted by this setting. One of the main matches of the T20 World Cup is the one between India and Pakistan. The tournament begins on June 1 with a warm-up match between Bangladesh and India.
