The 43-year-old man from Lalitpur, who was wrongly convicted in the rape case, has been acquitted by the Allahabad High Court after serving a jail term of 20 years. This person was lodged in Agra jail for many years after being convicted in rape under SC / ST Act. During this time his parents and two brothers also died, but he was not even allowed to attend his funeral. On Wednesday, a bench of the High Court acquitted him of the charges.

Have been in jail since 2000

In September 2000, a Dalit woman from Lalitpur district accused Vishnu Tiwari of raping her. At that time Vishnu was 23 years old. The police had registered a case against Vishnu Tiwari under Section 376, 506 of the IPC and Section 3 (1) (7), 3 (2) (5) of the SC / SC Act. The case was investigated by the then Narhat Circle Officer Akhilesh Narayan Singh Vishnu was sentenced to life imprisonment by the sessions court. He was then shifted to Agra Jail where he has been lodged for so many years. In 2005, Vishnu appealed against this decision in the High Court, but the case could not be heard for 16 years. Later, the State Legal Services Authority appointed advocate Shweta Singh Rana as his defense counsel.

Court acquitted due to lack of evidence

On 28 January, the High Court Justice Kaushal Jayendra Thakar and Justice Gautam Chaudhary said in their order, 'Looking at the facts and evidence, we believe that the accused was wrongly convicted, therefore, reversing the trial court's decision The accused has been acquitted.

'Uncle's entire life was ruined'

Vishnu's nephew Satyendra said during a media interaction, 'My entire family was financially and socially broken due to my uncle being wrongly convicted in this way. I lost my father, uncle and grandparents due to shock and social stigma. In fighting this case, the family had to sell a large part of the land. My uncle had to spend the best years of his life in jail without any mistake. His entire life was ruined.

'No restriction on essential work'

There will be no restriction on the necessary work during the night curfew. Employees working in night shifts will be allowed to come and go by showing their I-cards. Along with this, night shift will also continue in the industrial factories as before. There is no prohibition of any kind on medicine, milk and other brocades. At the same time, all schools up to class 12 have been closed in view of the corona infection. This order will be effective till 20 April. A further decision will be taken after reviewing the situation.

Strict action on breaking the rules of night curfew

On Thursday itself, the District Magistrates of Noida and Ghaziabad had also issued orders to impose night curfew in these areas. Night curfew will remain in Noida and Ghaziabad till April 17, the timing of which is also from 10 pm to 5 am the next morning. However, there will be no restriction on essential services and facilities during this period and passengers will also be able to travel by showing rail and air tickets. Strict action will be taken against those who break the rules.
