Civic Body Decides Upon These Three Names For Ghaziabad’s Renaming

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh): On Tuesday, the municipal corporation approved a request to rename the Ghaziabad district, continuing the string of name changes that Uttar Pradesh has seen since the Yogi administration assumed power.

Two corporation members reportedly voted against the proposal to rename Ghaziabad.

Three names, Gaj Prastha, Doodheshwar Nath Nagar, or Harnandipuram, were decided upon at the conference and will now be sent to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Speaking on the development, Sunita Dayal, the mayor of Ghaziabad, said that many people have been calling for the district to alter its name.

“The board debate will be followed by a proposal that is delivered to the CM. The CM has the last say on the name change, according to the Mayor.

Mahant Narayan Giri, the district’s chief priest of the Doodheshwar Nath temple, said that CM Yogi promised to take the proposal for a name change into consideration at their meeting last month.

“Gaj Prastha was the previous name for Ghaziabad. Ghazuddin, the brother-in-law of Mughal emperor Akbar, dubbed it Ghaziabad.

Changing the name of this city to Gaj Prastha, Doodheshwar Nath Nagar, or Haranandipuram was our initial demand. We suggested these three candidates to the chief minister as well. He told us that he would give the situation some thought.

The priest went on to say that after independence, names associated with colonialism or the heritage of slavery shouldn’t be retained.

“We see the passing of this proposal by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation as our good fortune. We have faith that Yogi-ji would bring back to the city the splendor of bygone eras,” he said.
