Decided order of priority for payment of leave encashment of deceased employees, order issued

On the death of state government employees, the government has fixed the priority for cash payment to the dependents in lieu of earned leave deposited in their leave account. The Finance Department has issued a mandate in this regard on Tuesday. If the deceased employee was a male, the amount of encashment of earned leave would be given to his widow. If the deceased employee was a woman, this amount would be paid to her husband.

In case of widow payment, if there is more than one widow, the payment shall be made to the eldest surviving widow. The eldest surviving widow shall be construed with reference to the seniority of the surviving widows as on the date of marriage and not on the basis of their age. In the absence of a widow or husband, this amount will be given to the eldest surviving son or an adopted son. In the absence of any of these, this amount will be given to the eldest surviving unmarried daughter. In case there is no unmarried daughter also, this amount will be paid to the eldest surviving widowed daughter.

If the surviving widow does not have a daughter, then this amount will be given to the father of the employee. In the absence of the father, the leave encashment will be paid to the mother of the employee. In the absence of any of these, the amount will be given to the eldest surviving married daughter. In the absence of a surviving married daughter, this amount will be paid to the eldest surviving brother below the age of 18 years. In the absence of any of these, this amount will be given to the eldest surviving unmarried sister. In the absence of a living unmarried sister, this amount will be handed over to the eldest surviving widowed sister. In the absence of a surviving widowed sister, leave encashment will be paid to the eldest child of the deceased eldest son.
