Jaunpur: Former Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and former Revenue Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mata Prasad passed away late Tuesday at Sanjay Gandhi Bathon Postgraduate Institute of Science (SGPGI) in Lucknow. He was about 97 years old. Mata Prasad, born on 11 October 1924 as the son of Jagroop Ram in Kajiyana Mohalla of Machilishahar tehsil area of the district, passed the middle examination in Hindi-Urdu from Machilishahar in 1942 - 43.
After training from the Normal School in Gorakhpur, while working as an assistant teacher in the primary school Belwa of Madihu region of the district, he passed the examination of Hindi literature besides Govind, Visharad. It was during his teaching period that he became fond of writing and singing folk songs. In view of his efficiency, he was made the secretary of the District Congress Committee in 1955. In politics, the late Babu Jagjivan Ram was an MLA for five consecutive terms from 1957 to 1974 on the Congress ticket from Shahganj (reserved) assembly constituency in Mata Prasad district. He was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council for 12 years from 1980 to 1992. Narayan Dutt Tiwari, the then Chief Minister of the state, made him Minister of Revenue in his cabinet from 1988 to 89.
Narasimha Rao government of the country made him the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on 21 October 1993 and he remained the Governor till 31 May 1999. While on the post of Governor, Mr. Prasad was sidelined when the then Home Minister, Home Minister LK Advani asked him to step down. Former Governor Mata Prasad was also known as a litterateur, he not only composed poetic works like Eklavya Khandakavya, Bhima Centenary Management Poetry, Rajat's Earth Satasai, Parichay Satasai, Digvijay Ravana, but the son of the untouchables, cheated in the name of religion , Also played dramas like Veerangana Jhalkari Bai, Veerangana Ud Devi Pasi, yearning for liberation, conversion of religion, vengeance of castes, endless fetters, Khusro Bhangi on the throne of Delhi. Along with this, he has written notable works like Manohar Arunachal state of Northeast India, Raj Bhavan from the hut.
Mata Prasad, a representative of simplicity, has shown the mirror to those politicians who, in today's era, once they become MLAs or Ministers, they get used to the carriage of bungalows and wealth, the same five times MLA, twice MLC, Uttar Pradesh Revenue Minister and Governor, Mata Prasad was seen buying goods from the market sitting on foot or rickshaw, walking was his habit. Several dignitaries have expressed condolences on the death of former Governor Mata Prasad, including former Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Kripa Shankar Singh, former Apna Dal MP Harivansh Singh of Pratapgarh, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Planning, Girish Chand Yadav.
