Has Been the Political & Ideological Hub of Uttar Pradesh for Years: Rahul Gandhi Remembers His Early Years in Rae Bareli

Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, recently posted a video on social media of himself remembering his early years while traveling through Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, the seat from which he is running for the Lok Sabha.

Gandhi was seen with his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in the video that was uploaded on X. He said that Rae Bareli, which has long served as the political and intellectual hub of the state, ought to lead Uttar Pradesh and the nation back toward prosperity.

“Rae Bareli is crucial to India’s development because she provides the nation with guidance. Gandhi said in the film that Rae Bareli has long served as the political and intellectual hub of Uttar Pradesh and that it has shown the way in the liberation movement.

“Today, Rae Bareli should play the role of one who first demonstrates the path to Uttar Pradesh’s progress and development, and then Uttar Pradesh should once again demonstrate the path of progress and development to India,” the speaker said.

“Priyanka and I also passed through the streets of our childhood while going to Raebareli,” the Congress leader tweeted, uploading a video of him and his sister having a little conversation about old memories. Priyanka’s cakes, Papa’s beloved Jalebis, Grandma’s wisdom, and a plethora of other sweet and bitter recollections—it all feels like it happened yesterday. Since we were young, we have had a close engagement with politics, but it has never interfered with our relationships.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congresswoman and Rahul Gandhi’s sister, commented on the video, stating, “Do not get distracted in this election at any point. The most powerful tool at your disposal is your vote. Make good use of it to alter your future.

Since the first general elections in 1952, when Feroze Gandhi, the husband of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, contested the seat, Raebareli has been a Congress bastion. The Congress fielded RP Singh in the by-elections and won the seat when he passed away in 1960. Following this, Sonia Gandhi selected Raebareli, a seat she went on to win four times in a row.

Elections for this Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seat are scheduled for May 20 as part of the polls’ fifth round. Rahul Gandhi is the Congress candidate for the seat this time around.
