High-Level Meeting on UP Inland Waterways Authority Hosted by Adityanath

On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended a high-level conference in this location to discuss the planned Uttar Pradesh Inland Waterways Authority. He ordered that it be created as soon as possible to increase the state’s use of waterways for transportation.

Adityanath said while talking about the creation of the inland waterways authority (IWA) that the chairman and vice-chairman positions should be held by distinguished professionals. He suggested that the state’s transport commissioner be proposed as the organization’s CEO.

The chief minister also said that the state IWA would serve as the focal body to interact with the Inland Waterways body of India, according to an official release. According to the statement, the IWA will oversee all inland water transport and tourism-related activities as well as assume responsibility for hydrographic survey and investigation for compliance with environmental and safety laws relating to water transport, development, and better use of waterways.

The IWA needs to research and evaluate the statistics on inland water transportation, he added. It is important to do scientific study on inland water transportation, tourism, shipping, and navigation. According to Adityanath, technical training should also be provided for the inland water transport’s officials and personnel.

The chief minister said that the IWA would be crucial in determining the catchment area, channelizing rivers, and maintaining their navigability throughout the year, among other things, in the context of effective exploitation and management of the state’s rivers’ waterways.

Additionally, the authority will contribute to creating the tourism circuit route. The chief minister gave the authority orders to coordinate water transportation with other types of transportation and to promote public-private partnerships. He stated the administration should choose a criteria for the categorization of inland waterways since every river is distinct in character.
