NOIDA: After a brief encounter on Saturday, the Gautam Budh Nagar district police arrested three smugglers and busted a gang selling liquor from Visakhapatnam to the national capital and recovered 300 kg of drugs from their possession.
Police said the three smugglers were shot in the legs in an encounter with the Jaracha police station during a vehicle check-up late Saturday night and were admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment. The price of 300 kg of hemp recovered from them is estimated to be around Rs 36 lakh in the market.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar SinghReported that police station Jarcha received information that some members of an inter-state Gaza smuggler gang were going from Visakhapatnam to a DCM canter across Gaza for sale in Ghaziabad. After which the police started checking the vehicles near NTPC Road of Eastern Peripheral Expressway, during which the team indicated to stop a DCM canter.
He said that despite seeing the police, the canter did not stop and opened fire on the security forces. While retaliating, the police also fired, and chased the canter. The bullet fired by the police is in the feet of the ganja smugglers Monu, Pramod and Umaid riding in the canter. He said that all three have been admitted to the district hospital in Noida for treatment in critical condition.
The DCP said that 300 kg of hemp kept in the DCM canter has been recovered from the trio. He said that during interrogation, the arrested accused have told the police that they bring Gaza from Visakhapatnam and sell it in the National Capital Region. Along with this, he has told the police that these people also sell drugs to students studying in colleges located in the National Capital Region. Police is taking further action in this matter.
