UP Election 2022: In the first assembly election, two MLAs were elected from Kairana in Shamli.

For the first time after independence, two MLAs were elected from Kairana in the 1951 assembly elections. Don't be surprised, but it is true. Actually, then there were two seats in the name of Kairana. Kairana North and Kairana South. Congress won both the seats. Virendra Verma won from Kairana South and Kesho Gupta from North.
141630 voters were in the first assembly election
In the first assembly elections, there were 141630 voters in both the seats. The number of voters was 76262 in Kairana South (assembly constituency number-59) and 65368 in Kairana north (assembly constituency number-57). There were 11 candidates in the fray on Kairana North and four on South. Apart from the Congress, there were candidates from other parties like Socialist Party, All India Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party. However, at that time there were 12 national parties in the country and two state parties in the state.
Reorganization of assembly seats took place after this election
The assembly seats were reconstituted after this election. One seat was left in the name of Kairana and the other seat was made in the name of Bhawan (Thana Bhavan). In the second assembly election held in 1957, INC ie Indian National Congress candidate Virendra Verma won and Sultan Singh was the PSP candidate, he came second.
Kandhla seat came into existence in 1967
The Kandhla assembly seat came into existence in 1967, before that it was Budhana seat. Congress's Virendra Verma became the MLA for the first time from Kandhla. Virendra Verma was a veteran politician. He was MLA twice from Kairana, once each from Baghra, Khatauli, Kandhla. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He also became the Governor of Punjab and Himachal.
Kandhla seat ended in 2008
Delimitation took place in 2008 and after that Kandhla seat was abolished and Shamli seat was formed. Earlier the city of Shamli and the surrounding area was under Kandhala. At the same time, Kairana Lok Sabha seat did not come into existence in 1951. Then the Lok Sabha seat was Dehradun District cum Bijnor District (North West) cum Saharanpur District (West), under which the area of Kairana was covered. In the 1962 elections, Kairana seat came into existence and independent Yashpal Singh was elected Lok Sabha member.
