Erica Robin Miss Universe Pakistan: Why Is Pakistan Calling Its First Representative ‘Shameful’? | Reasons Given

Erica Robin, a 25-year-old Karachi native who will represent Pakistan on the Miss Universe stage, will create history and inscribe her name in the Miss Universe pageant’s annals. This Pakistani Christian is the first representative of her country to take part in the pageant’s 72-year history. Normally, a woman’s nation would support and congratulate her in every way while she trains for such a coveted title, but Pakistan had other ideas for Robin. Many people from her own country, including government figures in Pakistan, have allegedly begun criticizing and berating her for competing in the Miss Universe contest, turning the accomplishment into a nightmare.

Erica Robin’s representation of Pakistan is significant for many reasons, not the least of which being the rarity of women competing in pageants of any type in nations with a majority of Muslims. After Robin won the Miss Universe Pakistan title, whose finals apparently took place in the Maldives, she left Sabrina Wasim, Malika Alvi, Hira Inam, and Jessica Wilson behind.

The uproar started as soon as it was reported that a Pakistani lady will be participating in the Miss Universe competition. The allegations state that a Pakistani Senator termed the Miss Universe Pakistan organizers’ actions “shameful” and singled them out. Anwar ul Haq Kakar, the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan, allegedly requested the country’s intelligence agency to look into the situation during a speech on the subject.

Ironically, when questioned about her goals, Robin allegedly mentioned wanting to alter how the world views her nation. Her desire to improve Pakistan’s image seems to be at odds with how other Pakistanis see their own country, however. In spite of the criticism, the young performer is prepared to take the stage with her head held high and alter the name of her nation. She continued to address the topic and apparently felt that the anger was brought on by the demand that she enter a room full of people of the opposing gender while wearing a “swimsuit.”

Model R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States won the title of Miss Universe in 2022, securing her place among the competition’s champions. El Salvador, a US territory, will crown her successor this year in November.
