Netizens are not impressed with King Charles’ new image, saying it “looks like he’s in hell.”

On May 14, King Charles III’s first official picture was unveiled at Buckingham Palace. The King was shown in the red painting, created by British artist Jonathan Yeo, with his sword pointing downhill.

As Yeo put it, “It was an honor and a joy to have been asked by The Drapers’ Company to paint this picture of the King, which is the first to be shown publicly after the King’s coronation. His Majesty the King was still His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales when I began this painting, and this image has changed along with the subject’s place in our public life, much like the butterfly I painted hovering over his shoulder. I hope that this picture accomplishes my goal of capturing the compassion and life experiences that are inscribed on each unique sitter’s face. For His Majesty the King, who has such a special position, to try to capture that was both a great professional challenge and something I really liked and am very thankful for.

Reactions to King Charles’ picture
Internet users commented on it right away. The majority were not impressed. To put it politely, one person said, “This is the worst royal portrait I’ve ever seen.” “I’m sorry, but his portrait looks like he’s in hell,” said someone another. “It seems like he’s going straight to hell,” said a third individual.

“I would have loved this if it was any other color other than red,” said another person. Although the severity of the red doesn’t match the gentleness of his look, he definitely nailed the essence of him in the face.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla was said to have approved of the picture by the BBC. Yeo was informed by her, “Yes, you have him.”
