Younger podcast listeners are more likely to develop a devoted listening habit

Even in the case of podcasts, good habits are formed early. According to a research, Gen Z listeners who began to consume podcasts as young children might become especially loyal followers of the genre. The market for podcasts is doing well. Data from the “2023 Infinite Dial” research by SXM Media and Edison Research indicates that 47% of Americans between the ages of 13 and 24 who listen to podcasts do so on a monthly basis, up 57% from five years ago. There are 24 million Gen Z podcast listeners in the US, according to estimates.

In addition to increasing their time spent on them, Gen Zers have increased their podcast listening over time. In 2019, 42% of monthly listeners aged 13 to 24 were female; now, that number is 46%. One in five Gen Z listeners identify as Hispanic or Latino, compared to 14% of all listeners, 15% as Black or African, on par with all listeners, and 4% as Asian, as opposed to only 3% of all US podcast listeners.

Over 10 hours a week may be spent listening.

The listeners of this age are likewise very devoted, particularly the early adopters. The study’s results suggest that people who get interested in podcasts while they are younger are more likely to remain committed to the format as they become older. 16% of Gen Zers began listening to podcasts before the age of 11, and 6 out of 10 began in their teens. Generation Z listeners like binge-watching material, much as users of streaming services.
